It is the fishermen’s village, a picturesque part of the city on the right side of the habour: it sets itself apart thanks to its typical semi-detached houses, fishermen’s boats, the fresh fish market, and fish restaurants.
Initially this neighbourhood was made up of shacks and its inhabitants, the so-called “magna pes” (fish eaters in Romagna dialect), were considered to be foreigners as they came from Veneto, thus the local population and the saltern workers living behind the quadrilateral cut them off.
Between the XIX and the XX century that part of the city acquired a strong identity, becoming what we know today as the “Borgomarina”.
