Church of Sant'Antonio

Via G. Di Vittorio - It was the reference point for the religious life and the devotion of fishermen and salt workers.
It was built between 1704 and 1741, the church is located outside the urban perimeter of Cervia Nuova and overlooks the canal port.
It is the Franciscan church of the Minori Osservanti, built with the adjoining convent using in part the stones recovered from the demolition of the Carmelite Convent of the Madonna del Pino, when the friars had to leave their headquarters in the Old City. Near the entrance there are numerous votive tablets, the "ex voto", testimony of a popular faith widespread in particular in the poorer classes of the city. The tablets date back to the XIX and early XX centuries and are of various kinds.
The church is also the starting point of the Feast of Saint Anthony of Padua, on June 13, when after the religious service the procession with the statue of the Saint starts and arrives at the canal port.
From here the procession of boats for the traditional blessing and the throwing into the sea of the crown dedicated to the victims of the sea starts.
