Drainage of the canal of Milano Marittima

Viale Due Giugno - This is where the Cervia salt production cycle begins.
The construction of the dewatering pump located near the sea on the tributary channel of the salt pans, in Milano Marittima, was completed at the end of the 20s of the twentieth century as part of larger reclamation works. It is located on the Canale del Pino (known as "The canalino di Milano Marittima"), artificially dug during the 1920s to bring counter-current water to the salt flats when the flows caused by the tides are insufficient. This is done through a system of pumps, sluice gates and dewatering pumps located at the marine end of the canal.
The Milano Marittima’s dewatering pump is capable of pumping about 80-90 liters of water per second. The water is not pumped if washed away by rain or in any case if it has a density of less than 2.8 degrees Beaumé, as it would lower the salinity of the waters of the Salina. Next to the dewatering pump is one of the Art Nouveau villas built in the early twentieth century.
