Pisacane square and ancient fish market
According to the original project, the space occupied by the small square of herbs had to be part of the internal courtyard of the Town Hall.
The project was never completed and what must have been a rich garden was transformed into a square for exchanges and businesses.
The Piazzetta delle Erbe is today one of the most evocative corners of Cervia, with two precious "jewels": the Antica Pescheria, active until a few decades ago, and the stone of measures. The construction of the fish market dates back to 1790 on the orders of Cardinal Colonna, designed by the Ravenna architect Antonio Farini.
In the twenties of the twentieth century the facade was restored, in which the coat of arms of the city was placed. For centuries the structure has hosted the sale of fish, an activity that took place until 1992.
The stone of measurements is an ancient table from 1636 from Cervia Vecchia, which shows the "True matrix of the measurements of Cervia", the units of measurement to which the inhabitants of Cervia and foreigners had to comply: among these the "Pass", a sort of meter for the fabrics and, and the “Quadrè”, the tile used for the construction of the floor.
